Indonesian Bankers Association (IBI) is the only professional organization in Indonesia and has been approved by the Ministry of Justice and Human Rights with the decree number C.35.HT.01.06.TH.2006 and witnessed by the Governor of Bank Indonesia and the Ministry of Finance.

BANKERS CLUB INDONESIA (BCI) WAS ESTABLISHED IN YEAR 1976

BCI is a senior banker club in Indonesian whose membership is limited by the Directors and Commissioners and senior officers to directors of banks in Indonesia. Function and main responsibility is to help each other and strengthen the relationship between the banker, who acts as both the owner and the management of banks; seek to improve the knowledge and skills of its members; and maintaining relationship with the rest of the banking sector in Indonesia.

 

INDONESIA BANKER INSTITUTE (IBI) WAS ESTABLISHED IN 1992

IBI membership is diverse, from beginner to senior bankers, both ordinary and extraordinary members. The activities concentrated on education and training activities. After banking crisis IBI concern more on Profession agency and handed the activity of educational training to LPPI.

Bankers in Indonesia need a place to express their thought effectively with continuously increasing professionalism and implement ethical standards, thus encouraging a commitment to defend the banker profession and improve the image of bankers.

There need a consolidation to gain a banking profession agency that suit the need and high quality of competence, legality, financial and agency. Hopefully this agency will be able to be a good partner in professionalism training of Indonesian banker to be more solid and effective in their duties and function.

THE MERGER OF INSTITUTE OF INDONESIAN BANKER AND INDONESIAN BANKER CLUB TO IBI

On July 28th 2005 the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between BI and BCI was signed. It declared that both sides agree to merger to be a professional banker organization. The approvals from all members are collected through RUA which hold on 23rd November 2005. The same thing also gained by IBI through RUA on 12th December 2005. Along the merger process, IBI become an association from the merger, and BCI will merge to IBI because IBI had the status of legal entity. Next, IBI become Association of Indonesian Banker. On 12 December 2005, the Indonesian Bankers Association was established as a professional organization of Indonesian Bankers witnessed by the Governor of Bank Indonesia and the Ministry of Finance and has been approved by the Ministry of Justice and Human Rights by Decree No. C.35.HT.01.06.TH.2006.

BANKERS’ CODE OF ETHICS

  1. A banker obeys the statutory provisions and the regulations applicable.
  2. A banker does a right notation in every transaction which is related to his/her bank activity.
  3. A banker avoids him/herself from the unfair competition.
  4. A banker does not abuse their authority for him/herself.
  5. A banker avoids him/herself from involvement of decision-making in the conflicts of interest.
  6. A banker keeps the customer his/her bank confidentiality.
  7. A banker considers the negative effect in every policy which is applied by his/her bank to the situation of economy, social, and environment.
  8. A banker does not accept a gift or benefit which enrich him/herself or his/her family.
  9. A banker does not do the negative deed which can adverse the image of the profession.
VISION
Be the professional body banker who gives benefits to his/her members through the development of professionalism in order to encourage the fair banking activity and build the strong national economy.

MISSION
  • Build the national bankers who have the equality of professionalism, character, competence, and competitive in doing the fair and sturdy banking activity in the national and international scope.
  • Give the advocacy and legal aid for national bankers who have legal issues to avoid the errors in the decision-making of violation which because of the code of ethics or criminal related to the banker’s profession.
  • Be the professional partner for the regulator in responding the important issues of the national banking and build the fair and strong banking system.
